LOCO HEADLAMPS
Loco lamps are made in my own workshop where I have tools and equipment
salvaged from Swindon Works Tinsmiths’ shop, together with items obtained from a
retired Midlands manufacturer.
SOUTHERN RAILWAY LAMPS
The Southern lamp was of unique design, being all steel rather than tinplate. It is a
round body lamp, welded together rather than soldered. The red aspect is obtained
by twisting the handle. This replica, for serious use, incorporates these robust
features. The manufacture of this lamp has meant a considerable commitment of tool
design and manufacture, as most parts are produced by spinning” – a process
requiring special dies. As stated earlier, the complete lamp is a welded assembly - it
actually weighs slightly more than an original, due to the gauge of the metal use, and
is well able to stand up to years of hard use and abuse! The Southern lamp is just the
right accessory for your “Terrier” or “Bulleid”. Railways such as the Bluebell that
operate through tunnels have to display warning lamps – originals are becoming hard
to find and unfortunately they are also damaged through use.
